Board Structure

Our church follows the Congregational self-governing tradition. The church family calls its pastor, establishes its own goals and programs, and engages in worship together.

The Church Council

Represents the congregation in its continuing ministry. Its members include the church officers and representatives of the church boards. The congregation elects all officers and board members.

No congregation member is denied the opportunity to serve. There is a diverse selection of responsibilities; grounds, music, worship, youth ministry, Christian education, etc. One representative from each board attends the monthly Church Council meeting where the board's concerns are shared and Council business is seen to.

Board of Deacons

This board has three primary responsibilities to the congregation:

Board of Trustees

The Trustees are responsible for the overall business of the church. The nine members, while serving on the board as a whole, are divided into four standing committees. The Building Committee oversees the maintenance of the church buildings and contents, while the Grounds Committee recommends and implements measures necessary to maintain the church grounds. The Personnel Committee develops policies, procedures and compensation/benefit packages for church employees. The Finance Committee is responsible for the continuous oversight of the financial condition of the church. It is responsible for the preparation of a budget for each fiscal year. After the budget is approved by the congregation it is this committee's job to monitor income and expenditures to maintain the budget.

Board of Educational Ministries

This board is comprised of nine adults and three youth members. The twelve member board is comprised of three standing committees, all of which work closely with the Director of Educational Ministries. The Children's Ministry Committee develops and implements programs such as church school, summer church school, vacation Bible school and the nursery. The Youth Ministry Committee is responsible for youth group activities, youth retreats, youth mission trips and the annual Youth Sunday. The Adult and Intergenerational Ministry Committee is responsible for programs and activities such as Christian Opportunities (Adult Sunday School), Bible study and all-church educational events and workshops.

Board of Christian Community

This board encourages members of the congregation to become involved in each other's lives through fellowship. The board coordinates and occasionally sponsors activities such as the fellowship hour after worship each Sunday, all-church retreats and the annual picnic. The members support the organization of small group activities and promote these programs to the general congregation. There are also efforts to promote denominational and ecumenical fellowship.

Board of Fine Arts

This board seeks to implement visual, musical, and other artistic programs and events to enrich the spiritual life of the congregation and/or community.
