Children are a priority at UCC, Midland, and this church joyfully strives to meet the varied needs of all the families we serve. Children are welcome participants for Sunday morning worship, and invited to participate in Children’s Moments in the sanctuary each week. Children actively participate in leading worship for the entire congregation two times per year. Childcare is always provided in The Rainbow Door Room for the entire worship service for infants and toddlers.
During the school year, we have 5 Sunday School classes. Programming is provided for all children age birth-8th grade, and takes place following Children’s Moments.
The Rainbow Door Room is across the hall from the sanctuary and serves age 0-3 year olds. This classroom provides amenities for caring for infants. There is a caregiver in the Rainbow Door Room, but parents are always welcome to be with their children in this space if desired. There are speakers from the Sanctuary Sound System in this room so that caregivers and parents are able to hear the entire service.
The Red Door Room is in the Education Hallway and serves preschoolers and children in Young Fives. Our class includes components of Music/Movement, Lectionary Bible Story, Prayer time, Snack, and an age appropriate craft or activity every week.
The Green Door Room in the Education Hallway serves as our class for Kindergartners and 1st graders. This is a large and active group, that enjoys an age appropriate activity or craft each week that correlates to their Lectionary Bible Story. They also worship together with a gathering litany and prayer time as well. Snack and time to play is provided.
The Orange Door Room is also in the Education Hallway and serves 2nd-4th grade students. This class learns skills to utilize their Bibles, reads a Lectionary Bible Story, prays, and also has an age appropriate craft or activity every week.
This classroom is Peanut-Free.
The Blue Door Room in the Education Hallway serves 5th – 8th grade. Students in this classroom spend a lot of time thinking about how ideas from the Bible are connected to everyday life and how Lectionary texts can be linked together to create a theme. The Bible story we focus on from the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum each week is also Lectionary based. Blue Door Room students will remain in the sanctuary following Children’s Moments the first Sunday of every month. This allows for a time to share in worship and Communion with their families, and provides a varied experience for additional opportunities to grow and develop spiritually.
We at United Church of Christ, Midland, believe that our church should be a safe church for all those who come in good faith. Most important, it should be a safe church for the children, youth, and vulnerable adults who are entrusted to us.
All Sunday School teachers and helpers, Childcare providers, Youth Advisors, SAFE Church Volunteers, and Vacation Bible School Leaders are SAFE Church Trained. We have a weekly SAFE Church Volunteer that visits all Sunday School classrooms and offers teachers assistance when necessary. We offer annual SAFE Church Trainings, and believe that education is a key factor in protecting children in our church and community.

Youth and Children Advent Program
December 10, 2017
The children and youth of UCC, Midland had an extraordinary moment to shine during the worship service they led on Sunday December 10, 2017. They delivered a message entitled, Let There Be Light. Throughout Advent, we are called to contemplate what brings us hope, ways we can bring peace, joy that can be shared, and how we connect Christ to love and light in our world. The children and youth are a great source of joy and hope. They are light. Jesus calls each of us to continue to be a part of God's light, shining in the world today. "You are the light of the world" Matthew 5:14
