Food Pantry

Midland UCC supports SAMS Pantry (Share A Meal Service) as a continuing, year-round project. SAMS is sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Church, and is one of eight food pantries in the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network providing assistance to local families. This assistance is in the form of food and non-food items to meet their basic needs until they can be placed on a regular pantry schedule or other support services.

  • On the first Sunday of each month, a collection of all loose pocket change in the offering plate is used to help purchase food through food banks and local stores.
  • The first Sunday is also a time when members can donate food and non-food items, leaving them in the baskets in the stem hallway. Donated items can be meal basics, such as soup, stew, chili, pastas and sauces, hot and cold cereal, canned fruit and vegetables.
  • SAMS also identifies needs for non-food items such as soaps and detergents, shampoo, tooth paste, tooth brushes, tissue, toilet paper, and other personal care items.
  • Eight members of the congregation are pantry volunteers who assist families in selecting their week’s supply of food.
