Christian Activism Workshop

The Social Concerns Committee invites you to attend a workshop on Christian Activism on Sunday, April 15, from 3-6 p.m., in the UCC Fellowship Hall. The workshop has been designed to provide a fun, interactive, and relaxed atmosphere in which to learn or refresh your skills at speaking up and out to those people or institutions which can help bring about the changes you seek.

A sign-up sheet is posted in the church hallway across from the church offices. We look forward to having you join us for a fun, informative, and hands-on afternoon!

The Sultan and the Saint

Thursday September 28, 2017
6:00 p.m.
Temple Theater
Saginaw, MI

In the year 1219, Francis of Assisi risked his life by walking across enemy lines to meet the Sultan of Egypt, the Muslim ruler and scholar Sultan Malik al-Kamil. This remarkable encounter between Christian preacher and Muslim ruler effectively smashed the strategy of dehumanizing the enemy in the Crusades and forged new hope for peace.

Kids Coalition Against Hunger Project

On Saturday, June 3, at the Islamic Center of Midland, members will be gathering to package 10,000 meals for Kids Coalition Against Hunger. A representative from KCAH will be present with everything needed for packaging.

You can help in two ways. First, each meal costs 28 cents, so to donate 10,000 meals, we need to collect $2800. Please make checks payable to ICM and write Kids Coalition Against Hunger on the memo line. We need these funds by April 25. You may leave them in the church office or mail them to the church:

United Church of Christ, Midland
Attn: Barb McGregor
4100 Chestnut Hill Dr.
Midland, MI 48642

The other way you can help is to package the meals on June 3. We will be working from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Islamic Center. Many hands make light work, so your assistance will be very welcome. If you can help package, please e-mail Umbareen Jamil to volunteer.

Foster Care Closet Project

Members of the Interfaith Friends group and other volunteers will meet to change items in the Foster Care Closet from winter to spring and summer. Please contact the Social Concerns Committee to volunteer for this project. You can work one hour or the whole day - whatever fits your schedule.

The locations for this project are Floyd Church of God or Holy Family Episcopal Church. You can choose which location you'd prefer to volunteer. Holy Family is the distribution point for children going into foster care and Floyd Church of God is where items are stored until they're needed.

Interfaith Coffee Chat

Please join the the Social Concerns Committee in a series of interfaith coffee chats with our Muslim friends and others.

The purpose is simply to get to know one another better on a personal level - the best way we can think of to break down barriers and mitigate some of the negativity of the election season - not to mention availing ourselves of a chance to make some delightful new friends.
